About Gary Olsen-Hasek
I believe that part of being made in God's image includes being a co-creator with the Creator. Creating visual art is one way I have done this since childhood. I was given great encouragement to learn and practice during my days in the Cleveland (Ohio) Public Schools. I studied illustration at Kendall School of Design (Grand Rapids, Michigan) and fine art at Hope College (Holland, Michigan). While studying for two seminary degrees, M.A. Peace Studies at Goshen Biblical Seminary (Elkhart, Indiana) and Master of Divinity, Bethany Theological Seminary (Oakbrook, Illinois), I incorporated various forms of visual art into my class presentations. I have taken classes in a variety of media, although at one time I focused my attention on printmaking. At this time of my life, my visual expression comes mainly through digital art and photography. My subject of interest varies from intimate to grand scale, from human to God-inspired and formed. My visual art has been exhibited in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Oregon. The name I use for my art business, Lion-arted Creations, was inspired by the character, Aslan, in the THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA by C.S. Lewis. After living in the Pacific NW for many years, I have returned to NE Ohio.
